Frequently asked questions

Why is Thrive different to other training groups?

We have deliberately focused our training and education on 3 key areas — time recording, client communication and time and file management. We consider these areas absolute fundamentals to working in a law firm and crucial to the sustainability, success and morale of the staff and the longevity & growth of the business.

Our goal is to train and educate your people to be well-prepared and confident in running a file, recording productive time and successfully managing a client, whether they are fresh from university or TAFE or well established in their legal profession.

We can deliver ALL our training using the law firm’s legal work for context, either face to face or via online workshop and webinars.

Who is your training suitable for?

We believe that anyone working in a legal practice, regardless of experience, will benefit from further training and education in time recording, client communication and time and file management. Our approach is to determine what each individual already knows, add to their knowledge base, optimise or change their approach and reinforce the importance of time recording for individuals and the business as a whole.

For employees new to law, training and education in time recording, client communication and time and file management at the very beginning of their career can only result in greater capability, confidence and productivity sooner, which is motivating for them and reassuring to the business owners.

Support staff also benefit from participating in our programs. They are the backbone of a business and when aligned with the lawyers’ work practices and processes, they can maintain continuity and consistency for the practice.

What program should we start with and why?

Realistically, any area can be covered first in accordance with the business’s requirements. However, to be completely honest, we recommend starting with time recording for the following reasons:

  • The training is straight-forward, easy to understand and expands existing knowledge of time recording, however small.
  • Many people we’ve already trained reported an immediate increase in the time they were capturing & felt relieved & elated to see more of their file work being captured & better reflecting their productivity- that’s good for morale.
  • New employees trained in time recording commenced their role within the business with a structured plan and approach to time recording — something most of us never had.
  • The training incorporates steps for easy habitual recording, so we start to create better systems of practice at the onset.

How long does the training take?

Most of our CPD training sessions and seminars with groups (large or small) will not exceed 60 minutes. Workshops, whether face to face or online are usually around 90 minutes as the session includes exercises and a short Q & A. Our more advanced training courses (such as the advanced time recording workshop) usually consists of a 90 minute session and a 30 minute follow up review one week later.

You can also tailor the training packages to suits your needs.

New employees to law would benefit from more time depending on what they know or don’t know. We offer “new to law” training sessions which encompass the fundamentals (the basic ingredients) of how to manage a file, how to speak with a client and how to capture productive time. Add in any firm specific practices and procedures and you’ve got the makings of a seriously well-organised and equipped employee.

Where does the training take place?

The training can take place at your office, boardroom, the individual’s workstation and using their own files for context OR online via Teams or Zoom. The online training sessions are growing in popularity due to their easy access and no need for travel.

Which geographical areas do you cover?

Thrive provides training and education to law firms throughout Australia, either face to face or via online webinars and workshops.

What sized businesses do you service?

From individual sole practitioners to large corporate firms, we can deliver training programs to legal practices of any size.

Can CPD points be claimed through this program?

Yes. This training is relevant to the lawyer's professional development and 1 unit can be claimed for each hour of training (up to 3 hrs of professional development in NSW- may vary for other states). The necessary CPD documentation can be provided at the conclusion of the training for your records.

What are your confidentiality terms?

We maintain strict confidentiality in all that we do within your business and can provide confidentiality agreements for signing prior to commencing. However, we generally don’t need to see Activity Reports for employees or other firm financials as the business is already acutely aware of budgets, targets and who might benefit from further training and this is obtained from you in the consultation phase.

What do you charge?

What we charge for

  • We offer hourly rates and fixed fees for our training, depending on what you require, so our costs can vary from firm to firm.
  • If you’re after fixed price training, our online workshops are the best value for money.
  • Group discounts available for all training.
  • We provide clear and concise quotes setting out the full nature and extent of the training and education and all costs involved.

What we don’t charge for

We don’t charge for consultation time spent with you discussing your specific concerns or requirements. Initial consultations can be quite lengthy and occasionally more than one session is required. However, this process is so fundamental in determining how best to apply the time in training and education that we offer this free of charge, regardless of how long it takes.

We don’t charge travel hours for the Hunter Valley region.

For all other locations where face to face training is sought, we offer fixed rates for travel which can be discussed and agreed with you during the consultation phase.
